Directorate - General OACM Vice President Stjepan Mesic (former president of Croatia, 2000-2010) Head of States code of ethic
During my Presidency of Republic of Croatia I was introduced to many of the nation's problems and challenges - among those environmental challenges and ocean plastic pollution. From my perspective, we have managed to solve many of the challenges that we have met concerning our nation - financial, social, cultural - but one of the unsolved problems and challenges we have not managed to deal with is the environment. Not only that we have not managed to resolve it, but since my presidency in 2000 the problem has developed from challenge to the bigger imminent threat of our times. This is what troubles me the most, not only me but many of my head of states current and former colleagues, we are not making any progress in addressing the situation seriously and this is why I have become a vice president for OACM. We need to take an entirely new approach to this problem, integrate into the code of ethic for heads of states to ACT more concretely and to hold a steady course in our path of dealing with this problem. Heads of states such as myself have moral, ethic and social responsibility to lead our nation and to set an example which is why the OACM strategy is to address the heads of states directly.
