EOMD (Extracted Ocean Marine Debris) Scale is the only measurement unit designed to keep track of extracted marine debris and plastic from the ocean. It was designed by OACM during the 15 years of ocean plastic extraction initiatives. This principle of tracking the extracted marine debris was very helpful to the organization as it provided the crucial information on their annual efficiency, necessary improvement of methods of extraction, and the equipment used to extract the debris. Now the EOMD has become a quality insurance and credibility assurance of the organization on both the national and global level.
EOMD aims to initiate the global tracking system in order to assess the OACM’s efficiency in the future - once enough nations have integrated the OACM SOS CP system. It will show the results that can be reached globally (in tonnes). This will provide valuable information not only for the world organizations and ocean research institutes but will also work as an accelerator to motivate nations to be more efficient and to integrate the OACM SOS CP system. The scale will not be precise as it is based on tracking the marine debris that has been pulled out of the ocean (wet weight) which implies the weight will be heavier right after extraction than it would be dry. The reason for tracking only wet weight is the complexity of measuring so it is advised to avoid additional workload for the divers and the team during the process of extraction.
National EOMD
National EOMD scale will keep track of official marine debris extraction by the OACM SOS CP system in the OACM integrated nations during the coastal, river and lake cleanups and WhiteFlag International CSMA certifications. The numbers gathered nationally will be added during the entire year of the cleaning process and will be publicly announced to raise awareness, educate and prevent future pollution. This is a unique tool for governments to promote national environmental activities and the management and protection of the national natural resources. By the end of each year, the governmental institutions can use the gathered EOMD Scale information and compare it to the last year’s info which will be helpful in becoming more efficient in the future marine debris extractions. It will help create new strategies to improve the system. The national EOMD weight will be added to the global EOMD Scale by the end of each year.
Global EOMD
Global EOMD Scale has a unique purpose - to collect information and data from OACM nation members and add the final results of the world’s largest global marine debris and plastic extraction undertaken by world governments, corporations and organizations. The global EOMD Scale will give humankind an idea of the incredible efficiency of the OACM SOS CP once it gets integrated in nations worldwide. It will also provide a clear picture of what can be achieved when the ocean pollution responsibility is taken care of by heads of states, governments, and individuals in decision-making positions. EOMD is a window into the OACM conglomerate thanks to its unique financial sustainable system of ocean, lake and river protection, preservation and cleaning - helping reduce the current plastic and marine debris in world’s waters.
