OACM - UN official collaboration: negotiations in process
OACM has initiated official talks with the UN about collaboration on several ocean preservation projects in Jordan, Amman, in February 2020 during the OACM President Kristijan Curavic’s visit to former UN WTO general secretary Dr Taleb Rifai, current OACM board member. The negotiations on the collaboration have been postponed and delayed due to the Covid-19 crisis. OACM’s President Kristijan Curavic is strongly hoping to accelerate the collaboration and partnership by the end of the year and define the clear goals, mission and fields of collaboration.
The OACM shares a similar code of ethics with many of the UN organizations and agencies, as well as the similarities in SOS CP system - the UN’s SDG 14: Life below the surface is comparable with the OACM SOS CP (Sustainable Ocean Solutions Conservancy Program). OACM has initiated an official research report which clarifies and defines other fields of interests in marine conservation, protection of coastal areas, biodiversity and protection of aquatic and marine life.
One of the wider fields of interest in the OACM - UN official report is the collaboration in global tourism industry development and integration of the SOS CP in the UNWTO which can reduce the global plastic print the industry leaves and solve the plastic problem inflicted to the ocean in the last two decades. OACM SOTD (Sustainable Ocean Tourism Industry Development) is developing new global environmental directives and regulations for governments and nations with highly developed tourism industry to support their economy growth through the environmental protection.
