Meeting between OACM and the French Embassy in Zagreb
Strengthening Global Cooperation for Ocean Preservation among G7 nations
In a key diplomatic meeting at the French Embassy in Zagreb, OACM President, Mr. Kristijan Curavić met with Hon. Fabien Fieschi, Ambassador of France, to discuss the upcoming EU ETIS Conference set to take place in Croatia on 16-17 October 2025.
This highly anticipated conference will bring together more than 150 nations, heads of state, government officials, and global corporations from both the public and private sectors of the tourism industry. The focus will be on developing sustainable policies and directives that address the challenges of modern tourism, while also ensuring long-term ecological preservation.
A key highlight of the discussion was OACM’s SOS CP system, a groundbreaking initiative that physically reduces plastic waste in coastal areas, both on land and beneath the ocean’s surface. France, as a leading G7 nation, has the opportunity to pioneer this initiative and take a leadership role in ocean conservation and sustainable tourism.
Ambassador Fieschi voiced strong support for OACM’s environmental work and committed to accelerating diplomatic discussions between OACM and the French government, ensuring their active participation in the EU ETIS Conference.
Mr. Curavić emphasized that France’s leadership, coupled with existing support from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, could serve as a catalyst for further cooperation within the G7 and EU, with a focus on ocean preservation, coastal certification, and marine biodiversity protection.
The meeting also marked a significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation between France, Canada, and other G7 nations, with an upcoming meeting between OACM and the US State Department scheduled for April/May 2025. This collaboration is expected to further engage other key G7 nations, including Italy, Japan, Germany, and the UK, in what is quickly becoming one of the most critical global programs for ocean and coastal preservation.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting collaboration as we work together to protect our planet’s oceans and coasts.
