The OACM High Representative for the Mediterranean and Black Sea region, Hon. Mr. Michael B. Chrisited, and the OACM President have initiated communication with the representatives of H.E. Dr. Abdulla Niyaz to include the Maldives as part of our SIDS Program (Small Island Developing States).

In the upcoming week, the OACM administration will work very closely with the Government of the Maldives to discuss their OACM Nation Member status and the official creation of the first Certified SAFE Marine Area (CSMA)—the White Flag beach in the Maldives.

This CSMA certification will make the Maldives the OACM's second most exotic ocean tourism destination after the Seychelles (certified in 2018). We believe this program will contribute to positioning the Maldives on the international tourism market as a leading ocean environmental destination, providing tourists with ocean safety and clean beaches, which are vital for their economic prosperity.
