Egypt: The First Potential White Flag Barrier for OACM's Arab Nations United Ocean Initiative
During the Global Tourism Forum, OACM President H.E. Kristijan Curavic officially met with the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt, H.E. Sherif Fathy. They discussed the opportunity of Egypt becoming the first Certified SAFE Marine Area (CSMA) in the Middle East and the wider MENA region.
H.E. Kristijan Curavic officially approved a CSMA Bond valued at €3 million for Egypt. This bond will support the nation in building the necessary digital infrastructure to attract domestic and foreign investors to the tourism sector.
The OACM is planning a delegation visit to Cairo, Egypt, in December to finalize the official CSMA Bond donation and the operational activities for creating the first Certified SAFE Marine Area in Sharm El Sheikh.
This represents a unique development strategy for Egypt, which will take an important lead in developing environmental tourism in the Middle East and Africa. This strategy combines innovation, sustainability, and technological advancement to create a more sustainable future for the entire planet, leveraging the concrete aspects of the CSMA program. Egypt will have a unique opportunity to introduce the CSMA program during the UNOC conference in Dubai in December 2026.
