Certified Wild Marine Areas
The OACM development program has created a system for protecting, preserving and cleaning wild marine areas which are not under direct supervision or jurisdiction of the countries or local community but are categorized as critical zones in danger of plastic and microplastic contamination. These areas are often forgotten and in any country, there are such areas of the great surface that need to be cleaned, supervised and monitored. These so-called wild marine areas contain an enormous amount of plastic that, over the years, turns into microplastic, which ends up in aquatic organisms and is consumed by fish. The evidence for this is concrete and confirmed by scientists and marine research institutes. The local governments don’t have enough financial resources or direct jurisdiction necessary to clean these areas, and this is where OACM has provided a solution with its partner, Whiteflag International.
